OUR PRODUCT TYPES

In-Stock Items

Our in-stock items are items that have been made and are sold as outlined on our site. The items fall into several categories:

• One-of-a-kind items that, once sold, cannot be reordered unless through a custom request.

• Several items were made, and if they sell out, they will be put on backorder and follow the made-to-order process.

• Made-to-order demo items that were made.

All in-stock items (if not on backorder) will ship within 3 to 5 business days.  All shipments are tracked and you will be notified when shipped.

Made-To-Order Items

Most of our items are made to order so that customers can choose the wood type, stain, paint colour, size, or other options depending on the item. We are also a small business, so we cannot provide pre-made items in every permeation and warehouse. All items made-to-order are made at the time of order and will be shipped within 3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the item and our volume.  You will be notified when your product ships and all shipments are tracked.

Custom Made Items

We offer a 100% custom option for those customers who want to define the product.  It can be an alteration of an existing product or an idea you might have.  We will provide you with a quotation, an estimate of the cost of shipping or delivery, and an estimate of time. We do offer pick-up as well. We can only provide a true cost estimate of shipping once the product is made.  We will contact you once the product is ready to arrange shipping or delivery. You will be provided pictures of the product along the way and the final product.

THE MATERIALS WE USE 

The Wood We Use

At Rustic and Renewed Decor, we strongly prefer working with reclaimed wood. Not only does it add a rustic farmhouse charm to our creations, but it also makes the wood more affordable and reduces our environmental and carbon footprint. Our range of reclaimed wood includes pallets, barn, and other hardwood we get from our suppliers. In addition, we also utilize new wood, including softwood and various hardwoods, which will be clearly indicated in the product descriptions. For all reclaimed wood, we meticulously inspect and, when necessary, heat treat the wood to ensure it is free from any bugs or pests. All wood (new and reclaimed)  used is purchased from reputable suppliers in Southwestern Ontario and is not picked up on the side of the road.

The Finishes We Use

We take great care in finishing our wood products to ensure long-lasting beauty and functionality. Our items are finished with wax, food-safe oil, epoxy, or water-based finishes, as specified in each product description. Charcuterie boards and cutting boards are treated with food-safe oil or wax, while trays, risers, and other food-contact items feature a food-safe water-based finish that cures over time.   Additional protective wax coatings may be applied as needed. For items without a food-safe oil, we recommend a 14-day curing period upon receipt before adding food. Painted items are finished with wax or polyacrylic to prevent yellowing, using chalk paint for the base and acrylic or chalk paint for stencilling. Wood items are meticulously sanded with a minimum of 240 grit, with 400-600 grit used between finish coats. Food-safe oils and water-based finishes receive three coats for enhanced durability. Items that are for outside use or need to be waterproof/proofed will be finished with an outdoor-based spar/polyurethane for durability and water resistance.
